Peter and The Wolf and Other Dances

Introduce your students to the orchestra with this beloved story! Each character is defined by a particular instrument in the orchestra with characters dancing the role engaging both auditory and visual learners. “Other dances” refers to shorter dances in Ashland Youth Ballet repertoire from other classical masters, Joseh Haydn, Minkus, and Glinka.

Peter and the Wolf and Other Dances provides a live musical and dance experience to our area schools and public audiences. The Ashland Youth Ballet dances to the musical accompaniment of the Appalachian Regional Orchestra with Ohio University Department of Dance rounding out the varied program. The orchestra is comprised of professional musicians from Louisville, KY, Pittsburgh, PA, Cincinnati, OH, Charleston WV, Morehead, KY, Huntington, WV, and Ashland, KY narrated by West Virginia Symphony maestro, Grant Cooper and conducted by Robert Turizziania who comes to us with experience from Illinois, Ohio, and West Virginia. The Ashland Youth Ballet performed this piece similarly nearly 20 years ago and felt the need once again to put on this adventuresome project of 20 musicians and 45 dancers. The Ohio University Department of Dance Senior Concert Tour offers the Athens based group in choreographies presented for their final graduation projects. This collaboration is brought to the community through individual and business sponsors, ticket sales and other fundraising efforts.
